Official: Berlin’s rejection of Russian gas may cause econ crisis

MOSCOW, Oct 6 (PRIME) -- Germany can abandon Russian gas imports fully in the next two years, but it will trigger an economic crisis, Oleg Tyapkin, director of the Foreign Ministry’s third European department, told PRIME on Thursday.

“Germany’s complete rejection of the Russian blue fuel in the next two years is entirely possible. As regards to the consequences of this step, they are obvious right now. It will lead to ever-growing economic and energy crises, a gigantic growth of energy prices, collapses and withdrawals of production and investment from the country, and a consequent contraction of competitiveness of the German economy and of the people’s purchasing power,” he said.

Even German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that the future of the German economy is in danger because of high energy prices and that it will suffer from a long-term damage. “Don’t ask me why Germany needs all that,” Tyapkin said.
